June 22 TO 26, 2023

Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s Another World season kicked off with a banner 5-night weekend at Fort York. A unique historic site within Toronto’s downtown core, nestled between 200-year-old walls and the Gardiner Expressway, Fort York played host to the opening weekend of this summer season, before TOPS took the show to other parks across the city.

Opening the festival on June 22 was ᑎᐱᐢᑳᐃ ᓇᑐᐸᓃᒐᑫᐊᐧᐠ (Night Raiders), an award-winning dystopian sci-fi thriller by local filmmaker Danis Goulet, TOPS’ 2023 Spotlight Filmmaker. Rounding out the opening weekend selection, audiences then feasted upon the otherworldly stories of recent Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All At Once; a 30th anniversary screening of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park; Guillermo del Toro’s magnificent and malevolent fable Pan’s Labyrinth; and a 25th anniversary screening of Queer auteur Todd Haynes’ Velvet Goldmine, a psychedelic trip into the glam rock underground. As always, all feature films were presented with short film pairings by local and Canadian artists.

You can support Toronto Outdoor Picture Show's free, accessible cultural programming with a tax-deductible donation.
