Last summer at Christie Pits Film Festival, audiences looked forward to eight Sunday evenings of curated short and feature film pairings in our programme titled Another World, a summer-long series that took place at four parks across Toronto.
Another World invited audiences to join us on a journey beyond accepted reality into the unknown possibilities of existence. Together, we explored many other worlds: the worlds of our dreams (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), the distant reaches of space (Viking) and fantastical journeys to new realms (Interstella 5555), the backyard worlds of childhood imagination (The Wizard of Oz, Fantastic Mr. Fox), and the cultural and memory spaces that queer, racialized, gendered, and other marginalized communities cultivate and hold dear (Riceboy Sleeps, Brokeback Mountain). As in past seasons, the complete programme featured a curated mix of feature films from around the world alongside shorts from local and Canadian filmmakers.
