Toronto Outdoor Picture Show will launch its season of Dynamic Duos programming and its brand new, majestic outdoor screen with an opening weekend of films at one of our favourite new sites, Fort York! Kicking things off is the one of the most iconic friendship duos in cinematic history, Thelma & Louise, followed by everyone’s worst patient-caretaker nightmare, Misery, this opening weekend will set the stage for a summer of dynamic onscreen pairings at parks across the city.

Join us for excellent films, food and a cool beer in the shadow of the Gardiner and the light of Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s magnificent, brand-new screen.

Adventure, the open road, and two great girl-friends. It starts out as a weekend getaway for the books, until things go horribly wrong and Thelma and Louise (the inimitable Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon) find themselves running from the law across state lines. Carried by Callie Khouri’s whip-smart screenplay and cinema’s most defining female buddy duo, Thelma & Louise still conveys the sense of emotional urgency that it did for audiences almost three decades ago, a powerful #MeToo story long before the term was coined.

Québécois filmmaker Maxime Robin’s short film Ballet Jazz is a tailor-made companion to Thelma & Louise. Karine and Karine take to the highway for New York and a weekend audition for the “Cats” musical. One car breakdown and a couple of elaborate costumes later, the duo find themselves buoyed by their idols Thelma and Louise as they embark on a gas station robbery, with darkly comic consequences.

Best-selling romance novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is on his way home from his Colorado writer’s retreat when a blizzard causes him to run off the road. As luck would have it, he’s rescued by former nurse and his self-professed #1 fan, Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates in her Oscar-winning performance). Annie takes great pride and joy in becoming his nursemaid - that is, until her bedside manner becomes the thing of nightmares Paul could never have imagined.

In Jérémy Comte’s 2018 Academy Award-nominated short film Fauve, two boys spend the day flirting with stunts on the edge of their small town. They play at killing each other - all in good fun - until circumstances begin to spiral beyond their control and the friendly games turn into tragedy.
