June 23 TO 28, 2022
Toronto Outdoor Picture Show - and Toronto’s audiences - found a home for open-air cinema at Fort York during summers 2020 and 2021, a place where community and cinema could be reunited for some very special evenings during the pandemic. A unique historic site within Toronto’s downtown core, nestled between 200-year-old walls and the Gardiner Expressway, Fort York was the sole venue for TOPS’ programming over the past two years, and we’re thrilled to kick off our homecoming return to all our green spaces with five high-energy screenings over our opening week.
The Curtains Up! performance-themed programme opens June 23 with a screening of Beyoncé’s monumental concert film Homecoming, followed by Baz Luhrmann’s jukebox musical Moulin Rouge!, the high-wire thriller Man on Wire that has to be seen to be believed, and two quintessential ‘90s New Queer Cinema classics, But I’m a Cheerleader and Hedwig and the Angry Inch to round out Pride Month in Toronto.
Curtains Up! is curated by Artistic & Executive Director Emily Reid, TOPS co-founder Felan Parker, and programming contributors Rachel Barclay, David Osubronie, Jon Petrychyn, and Isabella Brown.
