Nosferatu
With short film The Guest
Five years ago, we celebrated our fifth anniversary by putting on a unique presentation of F.W. Murnau’s iconic and influential horror film Nosferatu with an original musical score performed live by Toronto band Del Bel. Live score screenings are common enough, but it was (and still is) almost unheard of to stage one outdoors, and the results were stunning. What better way to cap off a celebration of Ten Years of Toronto Outdoor Picture Show than re-screen the film with a recorded version of this unforgettable musical performance? Whether you were there with us for the premiere at Christie Pits in July 2015, or you’re experiencing this silent classic for the first time, the combination of Del Bel’s moody, textured score and Murnau’s expressionistic images are sure to send chills down your spine. If you can’t get tickets to the TOPS show, join us at home!
Alongside the blood-sucking villain of the feature, the mysterious furry creature in Anishinaabe filmmaker Nick Rodgers’ stop motion animated short The Guest is similarly ravenous, and gives a well-meaning backwoods trapper more than he bargained for. Don’t miss this thrilling conclusion to our 10th summer season!
